We see Hamilton

No, not the musical: the town in Western Victoria. I will begin with the excellent view from our accommodation as the morning sun hits Mount Wargurri. When we arrived in Dunkeld a nice volunteer lady at the Information Centre had shown Frances a few walks around the town.  One of these went on a series of dirt streets around a walled off garden.  There are a number (I think 12) of gates in the wall through which the curious can peer in.  Here is a gate and a section of the sandstone wall.  This is a view through the gate. From a conversation on one of our walks it emerged that this is the holiday house of a Melbourne QC (now of course a KC).  Joining this information with various other things we came across said KC owns a lot of property around town including the posh hotel and restaurant in the main drag.  The Kitchen Garden (across the road from the walled garden) provides the fruit and veg for the restaurant.  One could draw an allusion to the...

The way back

Image
Not a series of old rock songs but the road home. We packed up expeditiously and drove out of the hotel (with little drama fitting through the car park entrance this time) at 0750.  There was a little excitement on getting to the street as a brown bomber was giving out pickets just down the road: but he didn't pay any attention to us.  (Which probably means he got a high score in the "Self-preservation" section of the selection test.) No need to involve Sheila on the way out of town as it is very simple: Right turn onto Victoria St, drive 300m and right turn on to Exhibition St.  Going down the first 500m of Batman Ave, offer up a prayer that we are not running up that slope (on a parallel road) at the start of the Melbourne Marathon. On, on to the Wild East. The most surprising thing about this image is how little traffic was coming towards us. Normally that road is 3 lanes full doing 20kph.  Also note the gloomy looking sky.   The sky became a littl...

Singing Honeyeaters rule!

Image
On previous visits to the City of Churches Singing Honeyeaters have been few and far between.  On this visit they seemed to be in every patch of bush.  With some difficulty I got some snaps.  The first one seen was on an early morning walk, so even though the photos were taken in the late afternoon, they come first. A more images from the walk beginning with some mosaics out side a dunny at Marino Rocks. Some examples of the signage along the walk.  The notices have information about aspects of the environment of the area. The area is about the best I know for sightings of Pied Cormorant. A view along Brighton Beach: unlike the UK original, this one has lotsa sand.  Very pleasing to see the number of pooches of various sizes enjoying the beach. This artwork refers to an indigenous legend about Tjilbruke, a giant from the Dreamtime who walked along the coast in this area.  This is one version of the story . A nicely placed political poster.  I hav...
