 We decided not to fuss with a walk on the Monday morning but to head for home asap.  I reckoned there might be a few students living in the complex. As we turned for Queensberry St into Rathdowne St I noticed a lot of cyclists, mainly heading down Rathdowne.  Those that turned into Queensberry did hook turns.  Frances took a photo of the peloton a little further along, going down Exhibition St. Note particularly the young woman with red hair and a pink top.  She was still alongside us when we got to Margaret Court Arena, 1.5km down the road.  I didn't think we got held up much by lights etc. A small delay at Cardinia Rd due to what was claimed as a prang, but I am quite sure was actually due to tailback from some trivial roadworks about 1 km further down the road. There was quite a bit of evidence of flooding between Traralgon and Stratford but the rads we were sent on were fine.  Although some roads we used had been closed earlier in the event there ...

Around Yarram (many images)

Today was intended to be a relatively quiet day as we have been rushing here and there for most of the last week (and have a big day planned for Saturday).  The main item was the Yarram Art Trail. Before getting there we swung in to the Alberton Historical Cemetery.  A most interesting site with the graves in 2 areas: one lot - sorted by religion (branch of Christianity that is, no Jews, Moslems, Buddhist or Jedi Knight graves were noticed) - close to the road, the others about 600m away beside the Albert River.  Reflecting on this, and the level of the River relative to the rainfall (none recently) and the tide (mangroves indicate tidal) I am surprised that quite a few of the graves are not flooded on a regular basis. These headstones were in the first section.  Looking at the timing of the deaths of the kids suggests epidemics of some sort in 1872 and 1874.  However it doesn't appear to have been an official epidemic  although they do note, contrary to th...

Final Day and Review

 We have been pretty much constantly on the move for a week so were keen to get home to Mallacoota on the 20th.  As Commonwealth Park is effectively unusable until mid October we reverted to a morning walk around Reid.  The first few images are flowers seen in the gardens of that suburb and Glebe Park. Flowering quince A Magnolia about to hit its straps. Plum blossom and a camellia. An unusually tall Hellebore in Glebe Park. A Camellia in Glebe Park. So the car was packed (see below) and we headed off at close to 1000 hrs.  The driving was quite easy although the performance of some of our fellow motorists drew adverse comments at times: if you are going to overtake in a passing lane don't sit in the outer lane doing 2kph faster than the car you are overtaking!   However the sun was shining and on we went.
