 We decided not to fuss with a walk on the Monday morning but to head for home asap.  I reckoned there might be a few students living in the complex. As we turned for Queensberry St into Rathdowne St I noticed a lot of cyclists, mainly heading down Rathdowne.  Those that turned into Queensberry did hook turns.  Frances took a photo of the peloton a little further along, going down Exhibition St. Note particularly the young woman with red hair and a pink top.  She was still alongside us when we got to Margaret Court Arena, 1.5km down the road.  I didn't think we got held up much by lights etc. A small delay at Cardinia Rd due to what was claimed as a prang, but I am quite sure was actually due to tailback from some trivial roadworks about 1 km further down the road. Changes not always for the better!

 This refers back to yesterdays comment about the Mexican weather: "Wait 5 minutes and it will change!"  So today we were out at the Western Treatment Plant (a massive sewage works at Werribee) doing birding.  It was colder than yesterday and a strong wind was blowing.  Little actual rain but Avalon recorded 9.4mm of rain yesterday so everywhere was muddy. A little earlier in the day we went to the Queen Vic markets as they will be closed tomorrow.  At 7am it is not crowded. My snag supplier. The main activity today was going to the Western Treatment Plant at Werribee for birding.  This was our fourth trip in that direction.  The first time we did without satnav and got horribly lost about three ways.  The next two times we used Google Maps and all was fine.  This time we used the satnav in the Mazda.  The main problem was that the system seemed to have a lot of trouble working out where we were starting from and then had trouble linking...

Flatter than a tack

 After the Adelaide Hills it was going to be flat.  Notice the evenness of the horizon in this photo taken for somewhere just East of Mt Barker. A bit further East, probably dropping down to Callington.  The horizon is still a straight line. A bridge over the Murray at .... Murray Bridge. We had never stopped in Peake before but a sign on the road had a magic word on it.  The Council unfortunately failed to put up a second sign, and the khazi was tucked away behind the hall, rather than as we thought at the oval.  Whatever, when located it provided the necessary services. Not only is the country flat but the roads are pretty straight.  I think this long stretch was from Pinnaroo to Ouyen. Our aim was to visit Hattah-Kulkyne NP somewhat North of Ouyen.  We headed for Lake Mournpull as that is where we had camped on several trips from Canberra to Adelaide in the past.  Here is the route we followed.
